Taking Off Towards Net Zero: Accelya’s Commitment to Sustainability

Accelya’s Commitment to Sustainability: Reducing Carbon Footprint, Embracing Green Technologies, and Promoting Eco-Friendly Practices

The aviation industry contributes to 2.5% of the world’s CO2 emissions. Airlines are under pressure to reduce their impact on nature, creating a greener economy. As a key airline partner, we’re passionate about helping airlines lessen their environmental impact. With this in mind, we must find solutions that drive positive change. Here’s what we’re focusing on to make that happen:

Reducing Carbon Emissions

In May 2022, we became a signatory of the Vista Climate Pledge. We, along with Vista portfolio companies, agreed to:

  • Measure greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
  • Set a GHG reduction target
  • Reduce GHG emissions annually
  • Offset GHG emissions

Focusing on these commitments, we aim to significantly reduce our carbon footprint. In FY23, we commissioned our first GHG report using the operational control approach.  This approach allows us to account for emissions from operations such as office spaces and data centres over which we have full authority to introduce and implement operating policies.

This year, we will introduce a new carbon management tool to ensure the consistency of data capture across our business. This tool will allow us to report our GHG emissions monthly, ensuring that consumption and emissions are tightly monitored and controlled.

Carbon Reduction Targets

We have set near-term company-wide emissions reduction targets in line with climate science and the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).  Our targets include reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 from an FY22 base year and reducing Scope 3 GHG emissions from business travel by 56% per $1m revenue by 2030 from an FY22 base year. We also offset 100% of residual carbon emissions annually using verified carbon offsetting schemes.

Investing in New Technologies

In 2023, we began transitioning our data storage and processing operations to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud.  This decision has helped fortify our service against potential disruptors, lowered our carbon footprint, and increased our business resilience. We estimate that the move to AWS has helped reduce our combined FY23 data center Scope 2 and Scope 3 GHG emissions by 17% compared to FY22.

Enhancing Operational Efficiency

We have revised our policy on business travel to minimize our environmental impact.  Introducing new flight class restrictions has limited the number of first—and business-class flights, significantly reducing our emissions from air travel. In FY23, this policy change resulted in a 16% decrease in employee air travel emissions, accounting for a reduction of 462 tCO2e.

We have proactively identified new office spaces with strict environmental criteria to reduce our footprint.  These criteria include selecting buildings with high energy efficiency ratings, sustainable materials, and robust waste management systems.  Additionally, we have set ambitious renewable energy targets to reduce our environmental impact further. Accelya currently sources 18% of our global office electricity consumption from renewable energy, and we are committed to increasing this percentage as we transition to green energy tariffs whenever available.

Looking Ahead

We believe in a world where every action brings us closer to a more sustainable planet. At Accelya, we are excited to be part of this journey. Our commitment to sustainability is strong, and we are dedicated to focusing on the four critical priorities described. By doing so, we aim to significantly reduce our environmental footprint and contribute to a, more sustainable future for our business and the aviation industry.
