NDC stands for New Distribution Capability. It is a travel industry-supported program launched by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to modernize and standardize the way that airline products are distributed to travel agents, aggregators, and other third parties.
Traditionally, airlines have used Edifact-sourced content via the global distribution systems (GDS) to distribute their fares and services. NDC, however, introduces a XML-based data transmission standard that allows airlines to provide more detailed and dynamic information about their products directly to travel sellers, they gain the control on how the offer is built. This enables airlines to offer a homogenous omnichannel experience, more personalized and diverse options to travellers, and it facilitates a more efficient and flexible distribution process.
NDC aims to enhance the capabilities of traditional distribution channels by enabling a richer and more customizable shopping experience for travellers. It also allows airlines to have more control over their product offerings and pricing, fostering innovation in the way air travel is sold and purchased.
